Funchal Aquarium

The building was conceived based on the reproduction of four environments in terms of flora and fauna: the Laurisilva forest, the Sanctuaries, the Oceans and the Funds. The Laurisilva comprised a greenhouse settled upon laminated wood frames, where the humidity chamber which characterizes it would settle. The remaining opaque area accommodated the various tanks with varied species, from the ones who live in the deepest deeps and those typical of the sea level. Due to its specificity, the project demanded a great effort form the team, which lead to innovative solutions under the hydraulic perspective.
